ABOUT THE TEACHER

Jesus Capel - Aerial straps
Jesús Capel - aerial, handbalance & dance
Jesús Capel
Jesús is an aerialist and dancer specialised in straps, and a graduate of the National Centre for Circus Arts. He also trained at NOD in Turin and Escuela Charivari in Madrid. He is particularly keen on finding ways to combine dance and circus. He believes borders between different performing arts are to be blurred, and understood as different elements of a same language

Jesús offers a gentle and encouraging teaching style, with attention to detail and clear progressions

On the Day
Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to sign-in and to start warming up before class. Classes start promptly and include a warm-up, no latecomers are allowed to participate but may observe

Etiquette
Studio K5 is in a residential block so please be mindful to stay within the studio and toilet area. This is a non-drinking and non-smoking place. Keep your stuff tidy and together with you. After the class leave promptly so the next group can come in. There is a full etiquette guide on the web page studio etiquette

Health
Ensure you tell the teacher if you have any health conditions, injuries old or new so we stay safe.  Personal hygiene is important, you may be asked by the teacher to give your hands, feet or armpits an extra wash before touching equipment

Stay safe
Aerial circus is very FUN and also dangerous (partly why it is fun). Listen and follow instructions from the teacher - be responsive and take responsibility for your own and everyone else’s safety

The teacher uses hands-on spotting technique to assist you execute the skills being taught and ensure safety. If touching is not suitable for you for any reason, please advise the teacher before the start of class

At practice sessions please note we don't allow aerial skills sharing between beginners, leave the teaching to the professionals. During self-lead practice you are responsible for your own warm-up and cool-down. Full guidance on this is given during the first four weeks of the course

Clothing
Tight clothes that offer maximum flexibility are best. You should have coverage of legs and ankles, and wear socks. Bring a close-fitting long-sleeved top with you, even in hot weather. Aerial dance wears out clothes quickly so don’t spoil your favourite leggings. No jewellery and no hand cream or skin oils on to be used on the day
